Hey Tony!

If you want I can set you up a section of your own in the Webcomics forum?

Too bad the forum is not crowded like it use to be, I wish it could be like it was 2 years ago  :sad2

Very interresting post Doug. Your post speak to me in many ways. I often ask the same question, "Where does time go?". I got so much things to do that surely you and others peoples we don't have enough of 24 hours in a day. BTW I just want to tell you that the future Flying Ferret website is 90% completed  :cheese But once somplete we will still have many things to do, like add all the Flying Ferret strips, make all the differents pages like Fan Art, Characters etc. But the worst will be done.

Now concerning comics, if you know me you know that I read a lots of comics book. And I don't have necessary the same point of view as you Doug. While I agree with you on some points, I don't think comics are less interresting than before. I am 39 and I read comics since I am 10 years old and collected them since 20. Sometimes I read old comics series and TPB that I brought and most of the time I found the story not very good. I think that since several years, we got a lot of better writers in the comics industry and the story are way much better. We got some poeples working in the movies industry writting comics and also some scien-fiction novelist.

I agree that like comics are not free and sometime a little too costly. But this is the same for most of the goods we broughs. And not too long ago DC have decided to lower some of their comic book title and Marvel have done the same. As for why they sell less comics than before, well I think I know. Well maybe a little portion of the why base on my actual purchase of comics. Last year, I was buying along the regular series, all the mini series that interrested me. And I notice that once the limited series of 4 or 6 issues were done, they would release it in TPB or HC. And most of the time they would add in the trade some bonus or others issue related to the story. Well this trade cost less than if you brought the whole series. So now this is what I do, I only brought the regular series and when I see a mini I wait for the trade. So I save money. And I must say that Amazon got really great deal on these with free shipping. Another things that is interresting is the comics on IPad. They cost 1.99$ and you got it the day they are release. But I still prefer holding a real comic or trade in my hand that reading it on an IPad. As a collector my comics is worth something after I pay for it.

Like you Doug I dreamed of one day being able to open a comics store. But like you said this is very costly and comics are not selling like the old days. I live in an enough big city to see comic store close one after the others. So now I take my comics at allnewcomics.com . This is an online comics store and we see more and more of them on the net. Less costly than a real store, they can save a lot and pass the saving to the customers. I think that this is the way to go for someone that want to sell comics without having to sell his shirt in the process. What do you think Doug? Want to be my partner :cool

Comic Convention / Re: Montreal Comic Con 2010
« on: September 16, 2010, 10:06:16 PM »
As for the lack of Webcomic booths.  Is it possible they were specifically excluded?  Or have the economic times made it tough low-on-the-comic-totem-pole webcomic creators to go?

Not at all. I think that there is simply not many webcomic artist in Montreal and also that since the Montreal Comiccon were at its third edition, since its kinda new and not as big as other convention, others webcomics artist living near, like in the Toronto area maybe, don't made the effort to go at the con.

Maybe if the Montreal con would have been there at the beginning of Eyeskream, when Christophe of Casual Gamers were with us, since he live in Montreal I would have surely brought a table with him and promote Eyeskream.

I don't know but I got the impression that the big days of webcomic are maybe gone. I don't say that webcomics are dead or anything like that but I think that 3 or 4 years ago, webcomics were strong because the general population just discovered them and since they are not as new anymore, peoples are less interested. And also MArvel, DC and others printed comics publisher are really at the top of their games, with movies like Iron Man, Batman, Predator etc.

Comic Convention / Montreal Comic Con 2010
« on: September 15, 2010, 03:33:05 PM »
I just came back this weekend from my first comic convention. This was in Montreal and it was the third edition.

I was very impress by all the peoples I met there. Vendors, artists and exhibitors. Of course I have take a lots of pictures and here is some of them:

This is me with Ethan Van Sciver. Best known for his work on Green Lantern, Flash and New X-Men. Ethan is a really cool guy and he his one of the hottest artist right now. Ethan is now exclusive to DC and speaking with him he told me that he don't plan to go work for Marvel anytime soon. I ask him to drawn me on of my favourite Marvel villain, Thanos :

This is a really bad ass Thanos!

I also met Yanick Paquette who is from Montreal. Yannick is also exclusive now with DC and will have a new Batman ongoing "Batman Inc." written by Grant Morrison. He was the regular penciler on Ultimate X-Men. I ask him to drawn me Thor on a blank copy of Avengers #1. The ink were done by Michel Lacombe who also ink the upcoming mini serie from Marvel "Loki". And crazy enough Michel was working on it at the con and he show me almost all of the pages of issue #1  :cheese.

I asked Yanick if it was hard to be able to work for Marvel? I was surprise to learn that it is not. He simply send his porfolio and Marvel contact him. If you are good enough and fit with what they are looking, this is it. Then Marvel direct you to other small publisher so that you can show them how good you are on a real print comic. After a while, they contact you back and offer you work on mini series and etc...

And finally the thing I am the most happy with is to have met Elvira, Mistress of the Dark in person. Wow! I still can't believe it! Here she is while signing a photo of her for me:

And check this one, am I a lucky guy or not  :tongue2

At 59, the woman of play Elvira, Cassandra Peterson is still very hot. She is very kind and beautiful! I heard that she will have a new show soon.

One thing that have surprise me a little is that there was no "Webcomic" booth or persons making some of them at all. Maybe this is because there is not many webcomics book artist.

Overall this was a great con, Brent Spiner (Data), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Billy Dee Williams (Lando) and many others actor and artist were there along the famous car of Back to the future movie.

If you want to see more, just go to my personal website at erikbouchard.com .

Sure! At least show us the corner where you make us laugh so hard when you create the FF webstrip.

Erik, is that a footwarmer/massager under your desk? :shock

LOL!!! No nothing like that. This is just a little adjustable step for the feet. I don't know how you call this in english, but it help for the blood circulation when the feet are at 90 degree with the legs.

You got a very cool workplace Steph. We can see your love of cars. Can't wait to see your new workplace, surely it will be as better as this one, and since you move from apartment to a house, maybe it will be even bigger and more to your liking.

Some of the old Eyeskream members has already seen my workplace, and like you Steph, I always like seeing the workplace of others. I also were in an appartment several years ago and when I brought and construct my new house, I make the basement as my personal "bat-cave". Remember the Ray Bradbury Theater television show around 1990? Well at the opening we see where Ray is working, we see all sort of different objects related to martian, clown, faery tales etc. Well I always wanted to have a similar workplace. So here it is:

The first four pics is my main office. The following four is my special room where I stock all my comics book collection. The CGC comics (slabbed) are on the wall. I collect comics since a very long time and I must say that I begin to wonder where I will place them in the future, since the room is almost full already :huh. The last two pics are my cinema / game play home theater. I got a projector along an electric projection screen of 9 foot wide by 6 feet talls along an Xbox 360, a PS3 and a Wii. We don't really go to the cinema anymore :wink

This post is specifically to all future new forum member.

When you register, it is important that you write a valid email. Each new forum registration is activated by me. I check to see if your email is legit and then I accept your registration.

How can I do this? Simple, I check on the Stop Forum Spam website to see if your email is include there. This website list all the emails of forum spammer since 2006 and is updated every 5 minutes.

Why I do this? Because of the forum spambots :evil To not have our forum overwhelm with forum spam or worse being hacked. You see even if in our registration process we use CAPTCHA, this is simply not enough anymore.

What is a CAPTCHA? This is the little color letters and number randomly written in a box that you need to write when you register. A CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing Test To Tell Computers and Humans Apart) is a program that protects websites against bots by generating tests that humans can pass but current computer programs (bots) cannot. Well this is not true anymore and so that's why I must check every registration individually.

How come bots can pass CAPTCHA? While this is generally enough for most of the simple bots, some can break the visual CAPTCHA and have a success rate of 92% or higher. The process is simple when you think of it. The approach is they're using general purpose algorithms that have been designed for generic object recognition. This is the same basic ideas that have been applied to finding people in images, matching handwritten digits, and recognizing 3D objects.

But what about email activation? Even this is not bulletproof. Generally most spambot scripts use fake or randomly generated names on real email providers, while the e-mails will mostly never be successfully routed to them, some has been able to, since it is easy for spammers to automatically register an email address and use it for validation, mostly via webmail services.

So once your registration is accepted, an email is sent to you. I would really like that you then go to your profile and fill it with some informations and update your avatar at the same time. That way this will show me that you are a real person and not a spambot.  :wink

Also if you want to speed up the process, you can email me at erik @ eyeskream.com to tell me you just have register.

Thanks a lot!  :skreamie

Games / Re: WOW.

Well I don't play but my daughter is playing a lot since she is in school vacation. She got like 8 differents characters and her most advance is an undead magician or something like that of level 40.

I watch her play sometime and yes this game is really good if it were not only that we need to pay a monthly subscription :angry2 Is buying the game not enough? Anyway each time I see her playing this remember me the hilarious South Park episode:

Blizzard Exec.: Whoever this person is, he has played world of warcraft nearly ever hour, of every day, for the past year and a half. Gentlemen we are dealing with someone here who has absolutely no life!

LOL!!!! This is my favourite quote :grin

Super Heros comics book / Re: Top 10 Comic Book Superheros
« on: June 29, 2010, 03:12:59 PM »
Yes me too got Spawn one time in my list but I let it down around issue #120 I think. Once the original McFarlane long and sometime confusing story was end, I really didn't like the new direction so I stop reading it.

If we remember Lucas Cage? Hell no but Luc Cage yes  :laugh Bendis bring him back some years ago and now he is the leader of 2 team, New Avenger sand The Thunderbolt! They make him a strong character and a prod new father also  :roll

Captain america is back, well Steve Rogers is back from the dead. He was not dead but lost in ... time or soemthing like that  :shock He don't wear the Captain America no longer, this is Bucky now that got the uniform and Steve is the leader of Secret Avengers .

Hulk yes kinda like him when he is ... well written. Greg Pak run was great with his Planet Hulk. But with Loeb having taken care of the Hulk universe since last year this is well...  sheee...  :bang

Never like Superman and never will, don't know why. I love it when he interact with Batman, Batman seem to always lecture him or something  :laugh

Man totally forgot Dr. Strange! I really love him also! Better than Chriss Angel  :wink
